Weekly Reader
These activities are great to use along with the classroom subscription of Weekly Reader. You can also read additional news articles!

Bookhive!
Find a good book in a specific literary genre. Find book reviews and comments for each book. What to find a specific book? Use the search engine to learn the genre of a specific book and read the viewers’ comments.

Silver Burdett Math
This website is a supplemental resource to the Silver Burdett math textbook. Find related activities and websites to use in conjunction with classroom activities.

Math Advantage
Select a grade level and choose an interactive math activity. Additional activities and printable materials can be found by selecting the Parent and Teacher view. This site requires Shockwave and Adobe Acrobat for many of the activities.

AAA Math
This is an awesome site for interactive practice for students of all grade levels. Select your grade level or math topic to begin. Topics that address the 5th grade curriculum are rounding numbers, comparing and ordering numbers, multiplication, computation, divisibility, fractions, decimals, percents, measurement, consumer math, area, perimeter, circumference, and volume.

A+ Math
This interactive web site allows students to participate in online worksheets, flashcards and games that are designed to improve Math skills for grades K-6.  Teachers can use the Flashcard Creator and the Worksheet section to generate activities which target specific skills.  Worksheets or flashcards can be used online or printed for offline use.  A homework helper is also available to assist students with problems "after hours."

Tangrams
Choose from three interactive websites, where you can move and rotate the basic geometric shapes that create a tangram to reproduce a variety of figures.

Web Resources for Social Studies

Stately Knowledge
This website will give you the facts about every state including Washington, D. C. It also provides comparison charts for size, population, birds, flowers, and more.

Expedia.com
This site is a great resource for  travel information for most countries around the world. Students may acquire a map of any location by using the map tab at the top of the page and by selecting Find a Map. This site also provides all the facts you may need for your research. Check out the currency converter and the link for weather conditions!

Kaleidoscope
TechKnow Park is the 5th grade section of Kaleidoscope, is a North Carolina comprehensive site for elementary students.  This web portal takes N.C. fifth graders through a journey that links students to online resources while integrating computer skills with other curriculum areas.

NC WiseOwl
NC WiseOwl is a site published by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. This site provides an incredible wealth of reference materials which include access to online encyclopedias, dictionaries and photographs. The site also sites each month for student use. Contact your school media specialist to obtain passwords for at home access.

Scholastic
Scholastic provides great resources to online activities for math, science, social studies, and language arts. Visit the News Zone and get up-to-date current events and links to coordinate with the classroom Scholastic News magazine.
