The Board chairperson is responsible for scheduling individual (one on one) conferences with the Superintendent, Deputy Superintendent, Associate Superintendents, Board Attorney, Board chairperson and Board vice-chairperson.

The Board chairperson and current Board members, Superintendent and senior staff will assist each newly elected or appointed Board member to understand the Board's function policies and procedures. New Board members or members-elect will receive orientation and/ or information on the following:

Role of the Board of Education and Board Members
Board-Superintendent Relationships
Board of Education Meetings
Conflicts of Interest
The Policy-Making Role of the Board
The Board's Role in Curriculum and Instruction
Relations with the Community
Relations with Staff
Relations with Students

The Board chairperson and Superintendent will ensure that all new Board members be provided copies of all appropriate federal, state, county and school district related publications and documents. These should include but not limited to the following:

Public School Laws of North Carolina
Guilford County Schools Policy Manual
Guilford County Schools Administrative Procedures Manual
Current School District Budget (with amendments)
Guilford County Schools Code of Ethics
Guilford County Board of Education Code of Ethics
Student Handbook
Personnel Directory and Organizational Chart
Superintendent's Contract
Any other materials deemed appropriate/important by the Board chairperson and/or Superintendent.

New Board members will also be expected to attend an orientation workshop scheduled by the North Carolina School Board Association. New Board members are encouraged to attend the North Carolina School Board Association Convention.
