Sara Kenney is a Recipient of the Project Fit America All Star Teacher of the Year Award
Because of her spirit, energy, dedication and commitment, Sara Kenney, elementary physical education specialist at Claxton Elementary, is a recipient of the 2007 Project Fit America (PFA) All Star Teacher of the Year award.
Kenney was presented the award at the Guilford County Board of Education meeting on Jan. 31. Kenney is one of only nine teachers selected nationwide.
“Kenney is a vivacious physical education teacher who is committed to helping students achieve and advocates for them to be healthy,” said Robin Bergeron, director of Health Services for Guilford County Schools. “We are thrilled to have her recognized as one of the best across the United States by being the recipient of the PFA All Star Teacher of the Year award.”
An advocate and role model for students and peers alike, this teacher was chosen for the award based on her exceptional dedication to the students, outstanding creativity in PFA program usage, quality of PFA program usage over a period of two years or more and having an excellent rapport with faculty, administrators and parents.
PFA, a national nonprofit public charity dedicated to getting kids fit, started the award in 1999 when the PFA trainers noticed that certain teachers were excelling exceptionally well in project development and in fact had begun to create their own versions of PFA lesson plans, games and activities. This award was created in an effort to showcase exceptional teachers and share their new ideas with other PFA teachers across the country.
