Employee of the Month (March 2006)

Novel Douglas (left) of Washington Elementary poses with Sam’s Club Representative Ron Evans soon after she was named Guilford County Schools’ Employee of the Month for March 2006. Sam’s Club sponsors the employee recognition program.
Novel Douglas is the “go to” person at Washington Elementary. The office assistant makes teachers new to the school feel welcome and helps them prepare for the school year. Novel can be found coordinating a staff potluck dinner, fixing the office’s copying machine, or cooking spaghetti for the school’s PTA meetings. Just about every child at Washington Elementary has tasted her special cupcakes. She leads the school’s Brownie Scout Troop and even ironed their uniforms in preparation for a recent performance for the PTA.
For the past 16 years, Novel has been the constant at Washington Elementary as the school transitioned in leadership, staff and students. She never turns down a request and always offers to do more. The staff members of Washington Elementary call her their “special angel.” For her extraordinary efforts, we call her “Employee of the Month.”
As the district’s Employee of the Month for March 2006, Novel received a $50 gift card and a gift bag from Sam’s Club, which has partnered with GCS to support the employee recognition program.
