Criteria/Timeline for Schools Interested in PBS

Principals and at least two staff members attend Orientation meeting to learn more about PBS. Please contact Beth Woody woodye@gcsnc.com or Sherry Rogowski rogowss@gcsnc.com if you plan on attending

Between 3/4 and 4/3/09

Interested principals (and staff) present PBS to remaining school staff; Staff votes; if 80% or greater votes Yes, school submits PBS application.

By 4/10/09

Schools submit application to Beth Woody at woodye@gcsnc.com.  

B y 5/1/09

Interviews conducted with principals of schools who meet 80% criteria.

By 5/8/09

Applications and interviews are reviewed; final decisions made; schools notified.

By 5/15/09

Participating schools select final PBS team members.

6/15-6/19/09

PBS Team training -- Cohort E.

Information gathered at Principal interviews:

  • School’s mission statement
  • Goals of SIP
  • Other initiatives and/or training to which the school is committed
  • Commitment from principal regarding time and costs
  • Commitment from principal regarding holding staff accountable for implementation of PBS

Time and Participation Commitments:

  • Principal must participate in trainings (5 days of training 6/15-6/19/09), 2-3 days of training in 09-10;1-2 days of training in 2010-11); Targeted (2nd tier) training (3-4 days projected)
  • Principal must commit to sending at least 5 PBS team members to Team training (5 days of training 6/15-6/19/09), 2-3 days of training in 09-10;1-2 days of training in 2010-11; Targeted (2nd tier) training (3-4 days projected)
  • Principals must participate and set aside time for PBS Team meetings (typically biweekly meetings 1st year; monthly meetings after that); team may need to meet over summer or on workdays
  • Principal must set aside time for team to present PBS to staff (~ 3 hour presentation for initial staff orientation, typically 10-15 minutes at monthly staff meetings for updates, 1 hour presentation on Supervision, 30-45 minute presentation prior to implementation of new policies or procedures)
  • Principal must set aside time for staff to teach policies and procedures to students (1st two weeks of school approximately 15-20 minutes per day; 10-15 minutes per procedure after that)
  • Principal must commit to using SWIS data management system & SWIS office referral form for data collection
  • Principal must commit to sending at least one team member and the data entry office person to SWIS training (approximately 3 hours)
  • Principal must commit to collection of data (SWIS, GTIC, Self Assessment Survey, SET, observations, etc.) and use of data by team
  • Principal must commit to sending selected staff to classroom management (CHAMPs) training (approx.14 hours)

Financial commitments:

  • $250 per year for SWIS; additional $50 per year for Targeted interventions
  • Subs for teachers on PBS team to attend team training (some sub coverage by GCS; amount TBD)
  • Sub for staff member to attend SWIS training (approximately 3 hours)
  • Subs for selected teachers to attend CHAMPs training
  • Costs of incentives and reinforcers
