Recognitions

Board Member Dot Kearns Receives The Order of the Long Leaf Pine          
The board recognized Board Member Dot Kearns as a recipient of The Order of the Long Leaf Pine.

Newly Retired Teacher Receives The Order of the Long Leaf Pine
The board recognized Marsha Morrell Sarvis, a newly retired teacher from Gateway Education Center, as a recipient of The Order of the Long Leaf Pine.

Six Schools Recognized for Top Graduation Rates
The board recognized The Early College at Guilford, Weaver Academy and Greensboro College Middle College as three of only eight schools statewide to achieve a 100 percent graduation rate. The board also recognized Weaver Academy, Southeast High, Western High and Northwest High for having the highest graduation rate by ninth grade cohort size.

Consent Agenda
The board approved the following items on the consent agenda:

  1. Personnel Action Reports
  2. Approval of Encroachment Agreement – Pruette SCALE School Campus

Staff Reports

Approval of Mountains-to-Sea Easement – Northern Middle and Northern High
The board approved the Mountains-to-Sea Trail easement as requested by Guilford County affecting the Northern Middle and Northern High campus, with approval being subject to the easement being used by the county for the purpose of the trail.

Construction Update
Andy LaRowe, executive director of facilities, presented to the board an update on the district’s construction projects.

2008-09 Capital Outlay Budget
The board approved the 2008-09 capital outlay budget, as presented by Sharon Ozment, chief financial officer.

Transportation Report – Update on the North Carolina Retread Tire Contract
The board voted to table discussion of this item until a later meeting.

2008-09 Local Options for Alternative Schools
The board approved the local options as submitted for the 2008-09 school year for SCALE - Greensboro, Pruette SCALE and the High School Ahead Academy.

 

Guilford County Board of Education meetings are broadcast live on GCSTV 2 (cable channel 2) and re-air the day after the meeting at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. and the Saturday following the meeting at 1 p.m.
