Moment of Remembrance and Silence
Chairman Duncan led the board in a moment of remembrance and silence in honor of those students who have tragically lost their lives this school year.

Consent Agenda
The board approved the following items on the consent agenda:

  • Personnel Action Reports
  • Budget Amendments and Transfers
  • Authorization to File Title I Application for the 2008-09 School Year
  • Bicentennial Greenway Easements, Guilford Elementary School and Western High School
  • Insurance Coverage for 2008-09
  • Red Light Camera Money

Staff Reports

Construction Update
Andy LaRowe, executive director of facilities, presented to the board an update on the district’s construction projects.

Interim Budget Resolution
The board approved an interim budget resolution in accordance with NCGS 115C-434, as presented by Sharon Ozment, co-interim superintendent. The board approved staff to distribute information to the public regarding the budget.

Preliminary End-of-Course (EOC) Results
Dr. Gongshu Zhang, chief accountability and research officer, presented to the board an update on the preliminary EOC results.  

Board Discussion

Continuation of Second Reading – Policy JCDAD, Student Harassment, Bullying and Discrimination-Free Environment
The board approved the second reading of Policy JCDAD, Student Harassment, Bullying and Discrimination-Free Environment. 

Continuation of Second Reading – Policy JCDAE, Sexual Harassment by Students
The board approved the second reading of Policy JCDAE, Sexual Harassment by Students. 

School Nutrition Services
Chairman Duncan called on Board Member Deena Hayes, who led the board in a discussion regarding school nutrition services.

Search Process for New Superintendent
Chairman Duncan led the board in a continued discussion regarding the search process for a new superintendent. Eight semi-finalists have been identified by Ray & Associates. The board has reviewed the materials compiled by Ray & Associates on its eight designated semi-finalists. The board is continuing to review all applications submitted.


Guilford County Board of Education meetings are broadcast live on GCSTV 2 (cable channel 2) and re-air the day after the meeting at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. and the Saturday following the meeting at 1 p.m.
