Staff Reports
Approval for Naming of Reedy Fork Area Elementary School
The board approved the project team’s recommendation to name the new Reedy Fork Area Elementary School, “Reedy Fork Elementary School” and directed staff to have the appropriate signage prepared and complete documents to authorize the name’s use.
Construction Update
Eastern High School Update
Kevin Lear, chief operations officer, presented to the board an update on Eastern High School.
Approval of Underground Storage Tank Purchase Order for Eastern High
The board approved a purchase order increase to Environmental Construction Services (ECS) Carolinas in the amount of $124,787.57 affecting the Eastern High building site. The district contracted with ECS for the removal and monitoring of two underground storage tanks.
Change Order to Contract for Construction of Northern Area Elementary
The board approved a change order in the amount of $110,487 for the revised water system by R.L. Casey, Inc., at the Northern Area Elementary School. The funds for this change are currently in the budget under project contingency.
Approval of Sod at Northern High
The board approved additional scope of work in the amount of $323,000 in order to complete the work on the three fields and to establish a stand of grass suitable for use by the athletic departments at Northern Middle and Northern High. The funds for this work are in the project budget. This will allow for fall and spring sport activities to be played on the school’s athletic fields this year.
Special Ed. West (Gateway West) Architect Selection
The board approved a change in the architect selection and that Pinnacle Architecture be selected for the design and construction administrative services associated with the Special Education West project.
Update on Union Hill Elementary
The board approved to reject all bidders and referred the item back to the Architect Selection Committee to pursue CM at Risk for the Union Hill Elementary project.
Contract for Benchmarking Software System
This item was deferred until the July 10, 2007 board meeting.
SpringBoard Agreements for Middle Schools
This item was deferred until the July 10, 2007 board meeting.
Update on the 2007-08 Budget
The board voted to, until such time as the State of North Carolina adopts a continuing resolution or final budget for fiscal year 2007-08, approve the interim budget resolution in accordance with NCGS 115C-434.
Board Discussion
Discussion of Military Recruiting Policy
Chairman Duncan led the board in a discussion regarding the military recruiting policy. Chairman Duncan asked administration to provide a report to the board at the July 26, 2007 meeting regarding ASVAB testing as well as a clear definition of how school campuses are handling and controlling contact situations involving military recruiter visits. |
