Guilford County Schools’ Employee of the Month

The Board recognized Tracy Smith, treasurer at Murphey Traditional Academy, as the district’s June 2006 Employee of the Month.

Golf, Tennis and Track State Champions

The Board recognized the 4A Individual Golf State Champion, 3A Doubles Tennis State Champions and 3A State Track Champions.

Staff Reports

ABC Update

Dr. Peggy Thompson, chief academic officer and Dr. Terrence Young, chief information officer, presented the Board with an update on the ABC model.

Preliminary EOG/EOC and Writing Data Report

Dr. Terrence Young, chief information officer, presented the Board with a preliminary EOG/EOC and writing data report.

Update on GCS Mission, Core Values and Thematic Goals

Superintendent Grier led the Board in a discussion regarding proposed new mission statement, core values and thematic goals for the district. The Board agreed to receive public comment regarding the GCS mission, core values and thematic goals for a period of 30 days.\

Health Advisory Council Update

Dr. Terrence Young, chief information officer, introduced Annette Sentner, health advisory council chairperson, who provided the Board with an overview of the goals and accomplishments that the School Health Advisory Council has made this school year as it relates to a Coordinated School Health Program.

Board Discussion

High Point Athletic Complex Area Contract

The Board approved the High Point Athletic Complex Area contract and entered into a  shared agreement with the City of High Point.

Reports from the Chairman

Chairman Alan Duncan provided the Board with an update on:

  1. The Reedy Fork Project
  2. The current efforts to nominate Superintendent Grier for his accomplishments
  3. The status of the Taser meetings
