Recognitions

Employee of the Month for July 2006

The Board recognized Linda Helle, office support for the Office of Athletics, as the district’s July 2006 Employee of the Month. 

Women’s 4A 800 Meter Run State Champion

The Board recognized Lindsay Broyhill from Page High School as the Women’s 4A 800 Meter Run State Champion.

Women’s 3A 400 Meter Dash State Champion

The Board recognized Tiaera Reynolds from Dudley High School as the Women’s 3A 400 Meter Dash State Champion.

Staff Reports

Surveys

Dr. Eric Beacoats, chief of staff, presented highlights of the Climate Survey for non-teaching staff and results of the Student Safety Survey and discussed what action will be taken as a result of the surveys.

Northern Middle School Planning Update

Dr. Peggy Thompson, chief academic officer, and Dr. Sam Misher, Northern Middle principal, updated the Board on the planning process for Northern Middle. The Board approved the school opening for sixth through eighth graders in the fall of 2007.

Rena Bullock Site Extension

Presented by School Board Attorney Jill Wilson, the Board approved a 21-day contract extension to complete closing on the Rena Bullock site.

Budget Update

The Board adopted the budget for the 2006-07 fiscal year. Sharon Ozment, chief finance officer, presented the Board with the following contract requests.

  1. SuccessMaker Contract
    The Board approved a contract with Pearson Digital Learning in the amount of $372,560 for SuccessMaker Software.
  1. Benchmarking Software System
    The Board approved a contract with Scantron Corporation in the amount of $253,440 for benchmarking in elementary, middle and high schools for the 2006-07 school year.
  1. Modern Red Schoolhouse
    The Board approved a contract with Modern Red Schoolhouse in the amount of $350,000 to provide professional development for sixth and ninth grade teachers.
