Recognitions

3A Men’s Swimming State Champions

The Board recognized Eugene Godsoe of Southeast High, Robert Padgett of Ragsdale High and Tim Mann of Southwest High as the 3A Men’s Swimming State Champions.

3A Men’s Wrestling State Champions

The Board recognized Jacob Creed of Ragsdale High as the 3A Men’s Wrestling State Champion.

3A Men’s Basketball State Champions

The Board recognized the Dudley High Men’s Basketball Team as the 3A Men’s Basketball State Champions.

Consent Agenda

The Board approved the following items on the consent agenda:

  1. Personnel Action Reports
  2. 2005-2006 Budget Amendments and Transfers
  3. Sale of Weaver Education Center House
  4. Drivers Education Contract Renewal
  5. Easement Request from the High Point Chamber of Commerce
  6. Architect for Renovations to Smith Academy Facility

Staff Reports

Northern Area Middle School

The Board voted that Northern Guilford Middle School name be presented for public comment.  

Dudley High School Media Center

The Board voted that The Nannie McAdoo-Dick Media Center name be presented for public comment.

Dudley High Automotive and Technology Building

The Board voted that The Nelson V. Macomson Automotive and Technology Center name be presented for public comment.

North Carolina Public Schools Facility Needs Survey

The Board approved the North Carolina Public Schools Facility Needs Survey and will send a memo to the Department of Public Instruction, removing the priority rankings with the exception of the Jamestown Middle and Ragsdale High School projects. Staff will forward the survey and an accompanying memo to the Guilford County Board of Commissioners.  

Board Discussion

Continued Discussion of Agreement with City of High Point

Chairman Duncan updated the Board on the proposed land agreements with the City of High Point. Staff will create a new agreement and recommendations regarding the land swap and present it at the 4/4 Board meeting.

MWBE Discussion Audit

The Board tabled this discussion until the 4/4 meeting, which would allow the Board to receive additional information and requested staff to work with the Board’s attorney to present specifics.

Contracts for the Construction of Northwest Area Elementary School

The Board approved the awarding of contracts for Northwest Area Elementary School and a Project Ordinance fund transfer.

Reports from the Chairman

  1. Board members Susan Mendenhall and Marti Sykes provided the Board with an update on the Council of Great City Schools’ Legislative Conference
  2. The Board approved sending a letter to Federal legislators asking them to reinstate dollars for safe and drug free programs in schools
