GUILFORD COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION
SPECIAL CALLED MEETING
GREENSBORO, NORTH CAROLINA

Monday, February 25, 2008

The Guilford County Board of Education met in a special called meeting for the purpose of hearing the report of the School Climate Task Force on Monday, February 25, 2008 at 712 North Eugene Street, Greensboro, North Carolina.  The following board members were present:  Jeff Belton, Walter Childs, Kris Cooke, Alan Duncan, Darlene Garrett, Deena Hayes, Garth Hébert, Dot Kearns (arrived at 6:11 p.m.), Amos Quick, Nancy Routh and Anita Sharpe. Also present was Attorney Jill Wilson.

Call to Order
Chairman Alan Duncan called the meeting to order at 6:05 p.m.

Pledge of Allegiance and Moment of Silence
Board member Anita Sharpe led the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence.

Approval of Agenda
Chairman Duncan asked board members to review the meeting agenda and called for a motion to approve or amend it. Motion was made by Darlene Garrett, seconded by Jeff Belton, to approve the agenda as presented. The motion passed upon unanimous voice vote.

Report of the School Climate Task Force
School board members listened to the report of the School Climate Task Force. Various task force members shared their perspectives followed by questions and comments from board members. A complete copy of the report is included in the minutes file.

Vice-Chairman Amos Quick asked that discussion of this report be continued at the March 4 regular board meeting. Chairman Duncan asked staff members to look at the recommendations of the task force that have a budgetary impact and provide a preliminary assessment of costs associated with these recommendations.

Adjournment
With no further business, at 9:41 p.m., motion was made by Kris Cooke, seconded by Deena Hayes, to adjourn the meeting. The motion passed upon unanimous voice vote.
